Name Them One By One

There are pictures to post and stories to tell (the whole summer, for starters), but I thought in the spirit of my girl Oprah and The Secret, I would dabble in positivity, even for just one measly post:

A few weeks ago, I was having the stereotypical no-good, very bad day. Nothing earth-crackingly catastrophic. In fact, it was pretty run-of-the-mill and, if I'm honest with myself, not that big of a deal. Just a steady drizzle* of mishaps and disappointments. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself as- some of my friends may be frank enough to corroborate- can happen.

But then

I stopped by REI to buy some stuff for Song School- a water bottle (to replace the lousy one- NATHAN brand- that broke in under a week), some socks, a flashlight, some food. I took my basket up to the cashier and she rang me up:

$2.56

Turns out we had credit from when we turned in our bum (NATHAN brand) water bottle and some other stuff. A minor victory when I was already worried about needless spending.

And then

Still not convinced that the tides had sufficiently changed, I decided to go do what any red-blooded Utahn does to drown their (pseudo) troubles: find the nearest white flour/carb/red meat/sugar/cream eatery. In this case, it was Cafe Rio. Say what you will about its lack of Mexican authenticity or overratedness or whatever your elitist stance is this week; but I don't go there to feel like I'm in Mexico, I don't go there to up my social ratings. I go there because it's delicious. So I order my smothered steak burrito, get my fixings, and...

FREE MEAL. (choir: FREE MEAL!!!)

Come on! I can't make this stuff up. At that point, I just had to smile and thank the relentlessness of the turning tides for not letting me think, for a minute longer, that my life was hard. Thank you, fates, for shoving me out of the doldrums.
